Rider is being trained as a service dog for the Caskey family. Not only is Rider working towards his CGC so he can prove his mannerisms in public and eventually join the Caskey family on frequent visits to Dayton Children’s Hospital, but he is learning several tasks. Rider will be trained in deep pressure therapy as a response to several issues. He will provide deep pressure therapy to comfort the parents during tough and emotional times, as well as for Astoria during seizures and colder seasons. When Astoria has her seizures, the pressure of Rider laying across her, and the ability to be able to grasp at his fur for tactile stimulation, helps bring her out of the seizure. Astoria also has problems regulating her body temperate, so Rider will be able to act as a warm weighted blanket for additional heating. Riders’ most important task of them all will be alerting when her feeding tube and oxygen need attention. When he hears these alarms, he will alert Christina by touching her hand with his nose until she addresses the issue. Rider has already proved himself more than capable of these tasks, and is working very hard to be the best he can be for his family.
Hank is a medium sized labradoodle from Hudson Pups. He is our newest addition to Anything is Pawsable, Inc. Hank will be trained as a service dog for Kellie Gravitt. Not only will he go through his Canine Good Citizen training and testing, but also be trained to press a button to notify Kellie’s family when she has a seizure, and gently coax her awake and comfort her after the event. Once he is fully trained, he will be donated to his family at no cost to them! We are so excited to unlock all the potential Hank has in store for the big job he’s been chosen for. A huge thank you to Hudson Pups for discounting this fantastic puppy for our program, and to all of our AMAZING supporters!
Meet Annie! This 15 week old bernedoodle x Great Pyrenees mix is one of our new members of the Anything is Pawsable Program. Annie is being trained for the Mercer County Juvenile Court to pick up on stress and anxiety in the children and bring some comfort and joy. She has already been to many schools and tagged along to court. This pup has already proven herself to be a well mannered social butterfly that has a knack for sniffing out those that need a little extra love. Not only is Annie working towards her CGC to prove her manners are top tier, she has also started learning deep pressure therapy. This is a skill that mimics a weighted blanket and helps soothe major emotions. Annie will be trained to notice signs of anxiety, anger, and sadness, and apply deep pressure by laying across their body or interrupting the behavior with a nudge or a lick.
Woody will be joining his handler/owner at her school nurse position at Shelby Hills Preschool and Wilma Valentine Childcare with the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities. His goals are to disrupt certain negative behaviors and administer deep pressure therapy to help calm and comfort children with autism, stress, and anxiety disorders and to retrieve during therapy sessions. Woody will also earn his Canine Good Citizen title during training with us. Everyone is super excited for Woody to join the team!
Lewis is a german bernedoodle puppy who is being trained for Lillieanna, who is an Autistic, non-verbal girl with ADHD. Lewis is learning to help Lillieanna in many different ways. Just his presence helps calm her during therapies, but he has also learned deep pressure therapy to calm her during these times, as well as during any outbursts of strong emotions. Having Lillieanna pet Lewis or give him treats when she becomes upset helps keep the meltdowns from escalating and he'll even give her hands kisses which helps redirect her attention. Lewis is learning to alert Lillieanna's mom, Megan, by barking when Lillieanna trys to sneak outside without adult supervision. Lewis has already become a very helpful tool and loved member of the Wise family, but will continue working towards his CGC and perfecting his tasks as a service dog.
Rusty is a standard poodle puppy from the Johnny x June 2022 litter that is being trained as a therapy dog for Coldwater Exempted Village Schools. Rusty will work towards his CGC and also learn tasks such as deep pressure therapy and behavior interruption to ease anxiety, stress, anger, and other strong emotions found in school. He has also been a welcomed addition to the school staff for boosting morale for students and staff all together!
Mylo is a golden retriever puppy that was donated to our program by Becky Snyder of Celina, Ohio. He spent his first several weeks of the program with his foster family, the Caskey's who have done wonderful with working on manners, potty training, crate training, and socialization, as well as beginning some of his tasks. We are so grateful to have wonderful foster families to help out with these amazing dogs. He is being trained for Kylie Miller as a psychiatric service dog for her bipolar, OCD, PTSD, and anxiety. Mylo will be assisting Kylie through social situations that she can often find difficult by easing panic attacks and flashbacks with deep pressure therapy and behavior interruption when she begins to disassociate. He will also be trained to retrieve medication in response to an alarm, to remind his handler to take her medication in a timely manner. His last task will be crowd control, to allow his handler space when she is feeling overwhelmed in a public situation. In addition to his tasks, Mylo will also be working towards his Canine Good Citizen.
